Thank you for your support – A Message from Corinna Csaky
I have worked with so many incredible people over my last nine years with the Coalition for Children
Affected by AIDS.
Such as peer supporters Duduzile Dlamini and Miriam Hasasha; who have reframed the narrative on
sex workers and young mothers, and shown how invaluable they are as dynamic members of
society; citizens with strong voices and inviolable rights; and, most importantly, as agents of change.
The late Noreen Huni and her colleague Lynette Mudekunye; who raised the alarm on the sharp rise
in adolescent pregnancy in Sub Saharan Africa. And who proved how psycho-social support is vital to
the survival and wellbeing of HIV-affected children.
Lisa Bohmer and Jenny Cozins who continue to show us how to be a good donor; and how to raise
people up in an equal partnership with respect and a lightness of touch.
Florence Anam and Annah Sango who continue to show us how to put communities at the helm and
not just at the centre.
Lorraine Sherr and Lucie Cluver who have made social protection and mental health support key
pillars of international development.
Linda Richter who has proven so decisively the impact of HIV on early childhood development.
Luann Hatane who has raised the voices of frontline health providers across Africa.
Gretchen Bachman who made holistic support for children and adolescents a key part of the PEPFAR
programme.
Meg Doherty, Wole Ameyan, Anurita Bains and Shaffiq Essajee, who have put children and
adolescents at the heart of the UN’s health and HIV programmes.
Sabrina Erne and David Ruiz who navigate the complex corridors of power to ensure governments
make collective UN commitments to children. This list goes on…too many to mention here, all great
and essential contributors to the Coalition.
As I move on from the Coalition, I wish to thank all of its Members, Partners and Secretariat Staff,
including Ashton Josephs, for their valued wisdom, hard work and collaboration. During my time
with the Coalition we have achieved so much together; redirected billions of dollars towards
evidence-based solutions; strengthened the voice of communities; grown our Steering Committee
from 12 to 28 strategic thought leaders; built up a new network of 450 Advocate Members; and,
above all, put children and adolescents affected by HIV firmly on the map. I’m especially proud of
our recent work influencing the world’s largest donors to invest in adolescent parents, and
improve how they finance programmes for vulnerable children. And that the vital work of the Coalition
can continue in a fast changing and uncertain world.
It has been my absolute pleasure and great privilege to work with you all.
Thank you.
Corinna
